Timber Green Woods in Spring Green, Wisconsin started their little wood-working shop three years ago. With just a laser cutter, they began cutting and engraving wooden snowflake ornaments out of wood scraps left over from their sustainable wood flooring business. Eventually, Matt Van Susteren and his wife Amie ventured into the online world of Etsy (a marketplace for hand-crafters), and found a great home there for themselves and their unique wooden products. In support of the Small Business Saturday “Shop Small” campaign on November 26th, we have asked one of our great customers, Norton’s USA, to tell their story.
I was asked to write for the Nashville Wraps blog because I buy from this great company. I have a retail store that sells only American-made products – Norton’s U.S.A. – A Uniquely American General Store, located in Barrington, Ill. I believe buying American-made products is as important to our country’s health as the education of our children. We can’t have a great country without manufacturing in America! [read more…]
Shirley George Frazier is the queen of gift basket design and even refers to herself as a “basketologist”. She’s the author of the best-selling books How to Start a Home-Based Gift Basket Business and The Gift Basket Design Book.
Shirley came from a long line of entrepreneurs, so the drive to start a business in 1990 and launch GiftBasketBusiness.com in 1997 was natural fit for her. Gift baskets got her attention when her husband made a thoughtful gift for a friend. She decided that creating gift baskets that stirred up joyful and comforting emotions in her customers would be her profession. [read more…]

Recently a few of us at Nashville Wraps had the opportunity to visit one of our manufacturing partners in Portland, Oregon. They have found their niche and are supplying high quality, competitively priced, 100% recycled paper packaging products all across the United States and Canada.

Regardless of our politics, we all have a yen for more American jobs (I couldn’t resist the pun). That is really what the bi-partisan China Currency Bill could help accomplish. For those of you who have been reading my posts you know that they promote more American products and manufacturing, but we have lots of hurdles to cross and so far without much, if any, help from Washington.

Recently I saw candy corn cones made from yarn on the visual bookmarking site Pinterest. Immediately, I thought these could be made using our raffia ribbon. They turned out as cute as can be.
They are perfect for counter displays, centerpieces, mantles or store window displays. They look great with candy-corn tissue poms (shown at the bottom). If you’d like to try them yourself, follow along with these step-by-step instructions.

Looking for a fun, easy and inexpensive way to dress up a package or your store window display? Look no further than tissue paper flowers. They resemble a cross between a carnation or peony when the ends are rounded. If you make pointed ends, you can create a chrysanthemum or dahlia look. Learn how to make these adorable tissue flowers in the video below. [read more…]
Currently, the president of the United States is on a quest to seek out solutions for American jobs. While I admit I have not personally reviewed the plan, I can speak to what most small and medium business owners believe to be a solid plan for job restoration in the USA.
It’s simple, right? Just buy U.S. products. But it’s not that simple, because there are not many available to buy. Those of us who look at labels know this all too well. But depending on the major retailers to switch to American-made products isn’t likely to work, and here’s why. [read more…]
