Keep up the great tips. I was at a networking event last month and spoke to a lady from Charlotte, NC who has remade her self into a green expert. Check out DoYourPart.com very helpful ideas on creating a green retail store as well as ideas for the home.

We offer a "free bite" of dark chocolate to anyone that does not take a bag. Customer's love it AND remember! Also, I use kraft bags only - I would love to use the recycled line, but they are more expensive and with the price of everything going up, you have to watch every penny. The chocolate is cheaper than the bags...

We try very hard to walk the talk. Once a month, (or more) we offer special store discounts if people bring in their own bag to make a purchase. Trying to establish a new habit. And to introduce our new recyclable shopping bags, we package gift in them so they are reused. It has worked very well.

I find it interesting and mildly humorous that today's society is rediscovering what used to be a way of life. Recycling, reusing, saving energy, was not even discussed - it just was the way things were done. I can remember every holiday my grandmother carefully unwrapping gifts, smoothing out the paper and ribbon, and saving them for the following year. Going green was called being frugal.
